In 1912, at an altitude of 1,800 metres above sea level, the Austrian monarchy built a doctors’ residence here as an annex for the planned neighbouring sanatorium, protected by trees that date back hundreds of years. With its large loggias, stone foundations and wooden façades, the structure followed the tradition of Alpine villa architecture that was influenced by the European Art Nouveau movement.
After careful restoration of the historic building, the remodelled villa is now a private retreat for up to ten people.
Located on the southern slopes of the Plose mountain, the villa is completely sheltered from view. Blessed by all-day sunshine, it opens up views of the Dolomites and the large private garden with pool, all surrounded by natural forests.
The villa can only be booked exclusively and offers its guests unrestricted privacy during their stay.
There is a concierge and a butler as well as a private chef available at all times for any queries or requests that guests might have.
Like the villa’s other historic rooms, the five large bedrooms with their en suite bathrooms reflect the tradition of villa construction in the mountains, one that dates back over a century. The great variety of materials employed was characteristic of the era. Depending on availability, different types of wood such as larch, Swiss stone pine or spruce were used to make the hand-hewn beams, manually crafted floors and furniture. These untreated woods create a room climate in the faithfully restored bedroom suites that has favourable effects on the regenerative power of sleep.
The origins of the villa date back to the year 1912, when the Austrian monarchy planned a sanatorium with an adjacent doctors’ residence. With its carved ornamentation and large loggias, the building recalls the Austrian architectural heritage of the second half of the 19th century and the Art Nouveau style. The stone foundations and wooden façade are in keeping with the traditional design of Alpine holiday residences.
The extensive restoration of the villa, which had previously stood idle for decades, was intended to recreate the original character of the historic building. Working with conservationists and restorers from a wide range of trades, the villa’s structural elements, beams, floors, furniture, windows and doors were all restored or faithfully recreated by hand in accordance with the methods of the time, based on the villa’s construction plans dating from the early 20th century. The bathrooms and spa complement the historic interior, with their linear forms, high-quality materials and warm colours all blending into the villa’s overall concept.
